A flat Gold Coast Suns that lacked running power were swept aside by the Greater Western Sydney Giants in Blacktown on Saturday.

While big men Daniel Gorringe (3), Rory Thompson (2), Charlie Dixon (2) and Tom Hickey (1) booted eight of the team’s 11 goals, the GC SUNS didn’t have the pace to match the slippery Giants.

The Giants spread their scoring load with 13 separate goal scorers in the 17.9 (111) to 11.8 (74) victory, with the clever Stephen Clifton picking up 30 possessions.

Dylan Shiel won a string of centre clearances for the Giants, who led by 17 points at the first change and 35 points at the long break.

The GC SUNS showed more fire in the third term to bring the game back to a gettable 25 points at the last break, but the home side finished much the stronger.

The GC SUNS booted five unanswered goals through the third term and had all the momentum before a turnover saw the ball go the length of the field and the Giants get a steadier on the stroke of three-quarter-time.

Goals to Shiel and Josh Bruce early in the final quarter quelled any prospect of a GC SUNS fightback.

The GC SUNS have been disappointing in both their travels to Sydney, having been crushed by the Swans three weeks ago.
