The announcement that Seb Tape had extended his contract on Tuesday completed a significant piece of the GC SUNS player retention puzzle.

The hardworking 20-year-old, who was last year described by midfielder Karmichael Hunt as the most fearless player at the Club, emerged as the key role player for the SUNS before a sickening contest with North Melbourne’s Lindsay Thomas resulted in Tape tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) requiring season-ending knee reconstruction.

Speaking at the GC SUNS major player re-singing announcement, Tape said his passion for the GC SUNS was a major factor in his decision to not be swayed by potential contract offers from AFL rivals across the competition.

“No, I’m pretty loyal… From day one (at the SUNS) I’ve really enjoyed the club, the staff and the whole community… everyone here has been really good to me,” said Tape.

“I’m really settled here and really enjoying my time, and I wanted to extend that as much as I could.”

GC SUNS General Manager of Football Operations Manager - Marcus Ashcroft, said the club had taken a relentless approach towards securing their young group of out-of-contract players, whilst adding more depth to a backline that often came under siege last season due to injuries and suspensions.

The three-time premiership champion said  that Tape’s re-signing was be a significant step forward for the Club’s ambition in achieving future success.

“This is the second time Seb has extended his contract with he club. He is an outstanding young man and we think going forward he can be a real role model for our Club and a real ambassador for our community,” Ashcroft said.
