The Gold Coast Football Club were out in the community today encouraging girls to give AFL a go, as part of an “All Girls” Auskick centre, encouraging female participation of AFL through the AFL Auskick program.

GCFC Players Jake Crawford, Luke Shreeve, Liam Rutledge and Lewis Moss were special guests of the All Girls Auskick at Somerset College, a local co-educational school on the Gold Coast.

The players were on hand to show the girls how to kick, mark and handball amongst the giant inflatable field and skill gallery, which is all done as part of the 8 week program they will be involved in.

The club have had a “Women’s Theme” during the month of May which has included entering a team and competing in the Mothers Day Classic two weeks ago (which included Coach Guy Mc Kenna), participating today in the All girls Auskick at Somerset and activities to raise awareness of Domestic Violence issues later in the month.

The clubs Community Programs Officer Corey Bell said:“It is great to see so many girls involved in the popular AFL Auskick program and for the players to come down and show them some of the skills, hopefully this will increase their level of enjoyment and involvement in the game.”

AFL Auskick is a fantastic eight week program that allows both Boys and Girls to participate in a safe, fun and non contact environment.
This popular program continues to grow each year, with close to 5000 Auskick participants on the Gold Coast now, and nearly every school on the Gold Coast running an Auskick centre.

All of today’s participants received a pink footy, pink backpack and some great give away’s from both the AFL and the Gold Coast Football Club as part of the program.
