With in-form key defender Steven May ruled out of Saturday’s Locals Round clash against Port Adelaide, a number of backmen have put their hands up to take his place via last week’s NEAFL game against the Sydney Swans reserves.

Seb Tape played his second game since returning to football and was once again named among the best. The number 13 pick at the 2010 National Draft will be keen to add to his 30 senior games before the end of the season, and will come under strong consideration for selection by Guy McKenna and the match committee this week.

Fellow defenders Clay Cameron (seven senior games in 2014) and Matthew Warnock (five senior games in 2014) were also named in the best players for the GC SUNS reserves and each could potentially slot into May’s key defensive post. There is also the retiring Tom Murphy who could fill that void. Murphy has featured among the NEAFL team’s most consistent players so far in 2014.

Rookie Louis Herbert returned to the reserves after two senior games and kicked a couple of goals, while Karmichael Hunt made his return to the football field last weekend as he pushes to regain fitness and his senior spot.

Jackson Allen, Henry Schade and Jeremy Taylor are names that may also be in the mix for this weekend’s Round 21 clash.

Who do you think should come into the team in Round 21?
