The Gold Coast SUNS have selected powerful mid-forward Bailey Humphrey with pick 6 in the 2022 NAB AFL Draft.

Captain of the Gippsland Power in 2022, the Victorian is a gamechanger, strong over the ball and talented enough to play as a full-time forward or midfielder.

Humphrey booted 21 goals in his 11 games for the Power in the NAB League, while also averaging 20 disposals and five tackles per game.

GC SUNS National Recruiting Manager Kall Burns said the club was thrilled to secure Humphrey with its first selection.

“It’s really exciting for our football club to bring in a dynamic player like Bailey who can really complement our current midfield group, but can play forward too and hit the scoreboard,” Burns said.

“Bailey is a powerful player but also has extremely strong character and comes with great leadership qualities.

“We’re confident Bailey will be able to establish himself within our group and be a Gold Coast SUNS player for a long time.”

Humphrey’s best game of 2022 came in Round 14 of the NAB League, where he amassed 31 disposals, four goals, five behinds, 12 marks and five tackles for Gippsland.

A mid-season meniscus injury saw him miss eight weeks of football, but the 18-year-old was able to return to play for Vic Country in the back-end of the National Championships.

Humphrey joins new teammates Ben Ainsworth and Sam Flanders as SUNS to have been drafted from Gippsland Power in recent years.
