While Gary Ablett may have been voted in as the number two player in the competition by his fellow AFL players, Herald Sun chief football writer Mark Robinson has the little master still at number one in his top 50.
Robinson placed Ablett ahead of Fremantle Brownlow medallist Nat Fyfe, Geelong recruit Patrick Dangerfield, Hawk Sam Mitchell and Sydney’s Lance Franklin.
“The player of his generation and wants to take the No.1 mantle back from Nathan Fyfe. Is it possible he could be 600-plus possession winner and kick 40 goals? Nothing is beyond him,” Robinson said.

Emerging key forward Tom Lynch is now seemingly on the radar of Melbourne media, ranked at number 34 on the list after booting 46 goals in 2014 and 43 last year to take out Gold Coast’s club champion award.
“Could be a 60-plus goalkicker if the SUNS' best midfield takes the field. You know how big blokes take five years? Well, this is his sixth year and he is already highly rated. Fierce competitor who takes big contested marks.”
