The Gold Coast Football Club has signed its second West Australian with exciting young forward Brandon Matera agreeing to join the club.
Matera’s recruitment follows the appointment of senior coach Guy McKenna two weeks ago to lead the Gold Coast into its inaugural season in 2011.
He is one of the eligible 17-year-olds GCFC can recruit to the Club for 2010 and will enter the club’s training program on the Gold Coast in November.
GCFC will play in the VFL competition next year before joining the AFL competition in 2011. The Club is able to recruit 12 of the best 17-year-olds from around Australia this year who turned 17 between January and April.
Matera, a WA state representative at U16 & U18 level, made the All Australian team as a bottom age player and is a member of the current AIS academy.
McKenna said he was excited to recruit a young West Australian to the new Gold Coast Football Club and particularly one with the Matera name.
“Having played with his father and Uncle it’s great to have another Matera on the team. Brandon is a very balanced and smart footballer and his great vision and quick reactions will allow him to play a variety of roles,” he said.
“I’m delighted he has agreed to join us and he will be given every opportunity to develop into a first class AFL player under our program at Carrara.”
Matera joins six other 17 year olds and ten young Queensland players who have been contracted to GCFC and are expected to be a key part of the Club in 2010.
