Three SUNS Academy young guns had a chance to join in the Gather Round festivities in Adelaide as the AFL Academy squad took on Port Adelaide’s SANFL side in Mount Barker on Saturday.
The clash, which saw the AFL Academy don its national colours, was played a curtain-closer to the AFL clash between Brisbane and North Melbourne.
SUNS Academy trio Jed Walter, Ethan Read and Jake Rogers all took the field in the AFL Academy's 13-point loss to the Magpies.
Both Walter and Rogers hit the scoreboard for the AFL Academy with the former, a 194cm key forward prospect, earning praise for his work rate throughout the contest.
Rogers was introduced in the second quarter and played the bulk of his game time in the midfield with a neat left-foot snap in the second half the cherry on top of his performance.
202cm ruck Read showed his talents both in the air and on the ground, showing a clean pair of hands at ground level and good use by hand.
The AFL Academy Boys squad will take part in a third camp in Melbourne in May.
