The Gold Coast SUNS have returned to the VFL winner’s list in sparkling fashion, defeating Footscray by 65 points in the first VFL match to be played in Darwin.
The SUNS won every quarter before pulling right away from the Bulldogs in the final term, kicking eight goals after three-quarter time to run out 21.16 (142) to 10.17 (77) victors.
Mabior Chol kicked the game’s first goal inside the opening seconds which set the tone for the SUNS who controlled the vast majority of the contest.
Sam Day was the leading goal kicker with four majors all coming before half-time and was one of an incredible seven multiple goal kickers for the SUNS.
Territory product Jed Anderson was among that group of seven, kicking two goals much to the delight of the local crowd.
Brandon Ellis impressed in the midfield with two goals, 23 touches and five tackles while Bodhi Uwland was strong across half-back in an experienced SUNS lineup.
The result solidifies the SUNS position inside the VFL's top two ahead of a trip south to face Port Melbourne at ETU Stadium next Saturday afternoon.
