GC SUNS AFLW Head Coach Cameron Joyce has confirmed a 24-player squad for Saturday’s AFLW Practice Match against the Brisbane Lions at Brighton Homes Arena.
The side features seven of the SUNS’ off-season recruits in Darcie Davies, Maddy Brancatisano, Clara Fitzpatrick, Ella Maurer, Niamh McLaughlin, Jordan Membrey and Meara Girvan.
The team contains three players yet to make an AFLW debut with Girvan, McLaughlin and 2022 draftee Alana Gee all looking to put their names in contention for the Round 1 clash against Carlton on September 2.
Lauren Bella, Ashanti Bush and new recruit Cara McCrossan are sidelined for the clash but are on track to put their hands up for Round 1 selection.
Saturday’s game is the second pre-season hitout for the SUNS following last weekend’s match simulation against the Sydney Swans.
The practice match against the Lions will be played in accordance with regular season AFLW regulations, including a number of rule changes made during the off-season.
For those unable to be at Brighton Homes Arena, the match will be live-streamed via the GC SUNS website from 10.30am on Saturday morning.
