Tasmanian product Elise Barwick will become the latest GC SUNS AFLW debutant this Sunday against Richmond at IKON Park.
Barwick, who put pen to paper with the SUNS in August after forward Kaylee Kimber was placed on the inactive list, will be included in the final 21-player squad to face the Tigers which will be confirmed later this evening.
The 24-year-old joined the SUNS from SANFLW grand finalists South Adelaide, having moved to Adelaide in 2022 from Tasmania where she’d previously won numerous State League premierships with North Hobart and Glenorchy.
Barwick’s selection means that every player on the SUNS list has now earned the opportunity to represent the club in the AFLW.
Known for both her speed and endurance, Head Coach Cameron Joyce is excited to see what the half-back/half-forward can add to the SUNS team.
“Since arriving at the club, Elise has shown a desire to continue improving, develop her game and get the best out of herself,” Joyce said.
“Her versatility and ability to play a number of different roles is a terrific asset and something that excites us.
“She has strung together a number of strong, consistent performances in match scrimmages outside of the AFLW and earned her opportunity to debut this weekend.”
Barwick joins Darcie Davies, Meara Girvan, Alana Gee, Niamh McLaughlin (all Round 1) and Cara McCrossan (Round 3) as SUNS AFLW debutants in 2023.
