The Gold Coast SUNS have made Academy prospect Kiara Bischa a SUN after selecting the key defender with Pick 50 in Monday night’s AFLW Draft.
Bischa, a Burleigh Bombers junior has had an incredibly consistent 2023 with sparkling performances for the SUNS Academy, Queensland and Bond University in the QAFLW.
A composed key defender who excels in one-on-one scenarios, Bischa’s intercept ability was a key feature at the National Championships where she was named as an All-Australian.
Alongside SUNS AFL draftee Jed Walter, Bischa was named as the SUNS Academy Female Player of the Year and the Academy’s Under 18 Girls Players’ Player.
The competitive defender boasts incredible professionalism for a young player and will add versatility to the SUNS defensive structure in 2024.
“Kiara’s impressive football resume speaks for itself. She’s been an integral member of our Academy program for a number of years and shown off a strong skillset, not only for the SUNS Academy, but for Queensland and Bond University,” GC SUNS Head of Women’s Football Fiona Sessarago said.
“As a Gold Coaster, having played junior football for Burleigh and playing such a key role in our Academy program, it’s a special day to see Kiara earn her opportunity at an AFLW level.”
