The SUNS are celebrating Member Thank You Round in style with all three of the club’s VFL, AFL and AFLW sides hosting matches at People First Stadium.
From 10am, the SUNS VFL side round out its home and away season with a finals berth still up for grabs against 17th-placed Casey Demons.
That clash will be followed by the AFL clash between the SUNS and Melbourne in what will be Gold Coast’s final home match of the season at a venue that has become one of the most feared venues in the country.
Senior Coach Damien Hardwick thanked its record-breaking membership base ahead of the weekend’s celebrations.
“Our members have been awesome,” Hardwick said.
“It’s incredible to have our VFL, AFL and AFLW sides all playing on the same site this Saturday.
“Our supporters know that we’re in a really exciting part of our journey. It’s been a challenging year at stages, but we’ve created a fortress at People First Stadium and hopefully we can get another win on Saturday.
“We thank our members and supporters for their support and, more importantly, look forward to the rest of the journey together.”
As one season comes to a close, Gold Coast’s tilt at returning to the AFLW Finals once again is only just getting started with the side’s final pre-season hitout against the Western Bulldogs at 5pm.
With free entry available into People First Stadium after full-time in the AFL game, or included with a ticket to that match, Head Coach Cameron Joyce is encouraging SUNS fans to get behind his side in the family-friendly time slot.
“The girls are really excited about, firstly, getting back and playing at home, and that to also have all three teams playing one after the other on the same day,” Joyce said.
“I don’t think that’s ever happened before and hopefully the crowd can hang around and support our AFLW side at the end of the day. It’s a great time for the kids and the whole family, and it’s free entry after full-time in the AFL game.”
