Gold Coast SUNS can confirm midfielder Alana Gee will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2024 AFLW season.
The 20-year-old was sent for scans following a training incident late last week with results confirming a ruptured ACL.
“Alana was involved in a contact incident at training and received scans on her knee following that incident,” GC SUNS AFLW Physiotherapist Jasmine Herlihy said.
“Unfortunately, the results showed that she’s suffered an ACL injury meaning she will be unavailable for this season.”
GC SUNS Head of Women’s Football Fiona Sessarago says the entire club will throw their arms around Gee.
“It’s disappointing news for Alana and what’s important now is ensuring that we provide all the support she needs throughout her rehabilitation,” Sessarago said.
“Alana’s been a part of our club for many years, firstly through our Academy ranks in North Queensland and in our AFLW program. We know she’ll come back stronger than ever.”
In positive news, key defender Vivien Saad is hoping to be available for selection for Sunday’s Round 2 clash against Carlton in Mackay. “If Viv can get through full training this week, she will be available for selection for Sunday’s game,” Herlihy added.
Maddy Brancatisano and Meara Girvan are also tracking well in their recoveries from respective ankle and shoulder injuries.
