GC SUNS fitter, faster, stronger
Campbell Brown has labelled the Gold Coast SUNS pre-season as the most professional in his tenure at the club, praising new High Performance Manager Stephen Schwerdt, his advanced training principles and extensive background in high performance.
The former Hawks premiership player revealed the playing group were thrilled to have Schwerdt at the club, telling goldcoastfc.com.au that many of his teammates were crediting Schwerdt and his team with the positive impact he’s had on their individual pre-seasons.
“He spearheaded the conditioning program for a long time at Adelaide and one of the things you always noticed about the Crows is that they were always a very physical and aerobically fit side.”
“He’s brought with him a new sense of professionalism to the club.”
“Everyone’s been training really well and doing the little things right… we’re really starting to see the benefits out of the way he’s prepared, implemented and operated our pre-season.”
The former Adelaide Crow fitness guru joined the GC SUNS prior to the club’s high-altitude training camp in Arizona, and immediately gained the respect from the playing group with his broad knowledge in physical and strength training.
Schwerdt said that the GC SUNS main focus going forward would be full-contact football conditioning, in preparation of getting the player’s bodies ready for match fitness.
“Last week we focused primarily on strength and conditioning, and today we held our usual 2km time trials and the results were really good.”
“We held testing just before Christmas but because the boys had a pretty solid couple of months, it probably wasn’t a true representation of what they were capable of given that they may have been experiencing fatigue.”
“They’ve obviously done a lot of work over the Christmas break and used the break to freshen up their bodies so that they could come back and give maximum effort… and that was reflected in the times they ran.”
