Gold Coast SUNS forward Campbell Brown has been charged with a level three misconduct offence (325 demerit points, three-match sanction) for misconduct in that he made unreasonable and unnecessary contact to the face of James Strauss, Melbourne, during the fourth quarter of the Round 20 match between the Gold Coast Suns and Melbourne, played at Metricon Stadium on Saturday August 10, 2013.

In summary, due to his previous poor record, his three-match sanction must remain at three matches, even with an early plea.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Melbourne Football Club, the incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points).

This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Three Offence, drawing 325 demerit points and a three-match sanction. He has a bad record of six matches suspended within the last two years, increasing the penalty by 40 per cent to 455 demerit points and a four-match sanction.

He also has 18.75 demerit points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 473.75 points and a four-match sanction.

An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 355.31 points and a three-match sanction.

The Gold Coast SUNS will have until 11am, Tuesday to challenge or accept the Match Review Panel’s decision.
