The Gold Coast SUNS continue to rise to the challenge, after the club officially passed the 8,000 members milestone overnight to maintain a slender lead over the GWS Giants in the race to 10,000 members.

The latest surge of 2013 memberships by supporters of the GC SUNS continues to provide Head Coach Guy McKenna with confidence that SUNS fans around the country are eagerly anticipating the start of the new season and looking forward to cheering on the home team as they enter into their third premiership campaign.

With the Giants now trailing by 213 members, it’s hoped Gold Coasters and supporters of the Club will continue to show their support in the lead up to the season opener against St Kilda on March 30th at Metricon Stadium.

It was AFL legend Kevin Sheedy who first issued the challenge, tweeting that he thought the GWS Giants could achieve 10,000 members before the start of the season and ahead of the GC SUNS.

The Gold Coast happily accepted the challenge and it was later revealed the losing coach would be forced to parade along their local beach in a pair of the winning Club’s budgie smugglers (Speedos).

However, the race to 10,000 memberships is only a stepping stone for the Gold Coast, with the GC SUNS striving to achieve their  20-ONE-3 vision of twenty thousand  members and one premiership within the next three years.

20-ONE-3 was officially launched by GC SUNS Chairman John Witheriff in November last year with the passionate Gold Coaster saying the realisation of 20-ONE-3 would allow the club to achieve sustainable success.

"Achieving 20-ONE-3, twenty thousand members and an AFL Premiership within three years will require hard work and a commitment from our players, our staff and our community."

“We are well aware our targets are bold, however it is this boldness that has got this Club and this Community to where it is today.” Said Witheriff.

To assist the club in achieving 20-ONE-3, and to help send Sheedy down Bondi beach in a pair of GC SUNS Speedos, make sure you play your part through a 2013 GC SUNS membership. Visit goldcoastfcmembership.com.au today!
