This week we're getting to know some of our SUNS members who volunteered at the Commonwealth Games and learning about their experiences as a volunteer and what makes them a great SUNS member.
Today we get to know Erin...
What was your role at the Commonwealth Games?
Team Liaison Officer for Netball
What was your number one highlight?
Meeting the coaches, players and being court side to the games. Meeting so many people from different parts of the world
Did you have the opportunity to meet anyone ‘famous’, were you star struck at all?
As I worked with the teams I met quite a few famous faces but also had the opportunity to meet Usain Bolt at the Netball games when I was Liaison for Jamaica
Your husband is a volunteer coach at Southport Sharks FC, can you tell us more about his role?
Ty has been a coach for 4 years at Southport Sharks. Over the years he has coached the girls U13, U15 and U17 teams and has been working with the Sharks Football Club to increase girls participation in football
You have a daughter who plays AFL, is she excited ths SUNS will have an AFLW team in 2020?
I have two daughters who play in U11 and U13 girls at Southport Sharks. They are excited to think there will be a local team in the AFLW very soon. Great opportunity for them in the future.
Does footy play a big role in your family?
We are foundation Suns members so try and get to most of the home games each season. Football is a major part of our life and consumes a lot of our weekend time with both girls playing and Ty coaching but we would not have it any other way. (Ok maybe a Sunday here and there free during the season)
As a member, what’s been your favourite SUNS moment?
The very first home game where we won was fantastic. The excitement around the stadium will never be forgotten.
As a proud Gold Coaster do you love that you have an AFL team to call your own?
Indeed and lets hope there here to stay
