After four consecutive losses, the Gold Coast SUNS reserves are back on the winners list after a comprehensive 24-point win over the Brisbane Lions reserves at Coorparoo on Saturday afternoon.
The SUNS were regularly challenged over the duration of the contest by their Queensland rivals, but were able to respond on each occasion, running out winners 18.10 (118) to 14.10 (94).
With the SUNS leading by 35 points midway through the third quarter, the game looked all but over, however the Lions responded with the last three goals of the term to cut the margin to just 17 points at the final change. However, that would be as close as the Lions would get.
Keegan Brooksby made his intentions clear from the outset, booting two goals in the opening quarter to go with eight disposals and four marks. The South Adelaide product, in his first game back from injury, finished with 25 disposals, nine marks and five majors to finish with best-on-ground honours.
Fellow big man Zac Smith played as primary ruck and was influential right around the ground with 27 disposals and a goal.
Meanwhile, Aaron Hall did as he pleased through the midfield to finish with 29 disposals and four goals next to his name.
Seb Tape (24 disposals), Tyrone Downie (21 disposals) and Greg Broughton (20 disposals) were also among the best.
Brisbane Lions 3.3 7.5 12.7 14.10 (94)
GC SUNS 5.1 10.4 15.6 18.10 (118)
