Two Gold Coast SUNS Academy members followed in the footsteps of the club’s entire 2016 National Draft crop when they flew to the United States on Monday as part of a NAB AFL Academy Camp.

Ben Ainsworth, Jack Scrimshaw, Will Brodie, Jack Bowes and Brad Scheer all made the trip to the IMG Academy in Florida last year, reuniting at Metricon Stadium in November after being selected by the SUNS in the draft.

This year, ruckman Brayden Crossley and Ghanian-born Kwaby Boakye will spend a week training under the watchful eyes of AFL Academy head coach Luke Power and recently retired Saints and Kangaroos midfielder Nick Dal Santo (AFL Academy assistant coach).

“Those two (Crossley and Boakye) are over there at the moment, just another fantastic experience as part of the AFL NAB Academy,” SUNS Academy head coach Andrew Raines told SUNS TV.

“They’re over at the IMG, the academy over there. State-of-the-art facilities, sports science, so that’s in Florida. Think they’re there for a week and then they head over to LA and watch some sport over there and do some touristy stuff.

“It’s going to be just a great experience for them. They’re with the best 30-40 kids in Australia so when you’re training in that environment, it’s going to help them.”
