When South Adelaide product Keegan Brooksby arrived at Metricon Stadium in December 2014 as a mature-aged rookie, he was the premier ruckman outside of the AFL signed to add depth to a SUNS ruck division continually tested by injury.
Fast forward 16 months and Brooksby lined up at full back for the NEAFL side against Aspley, a position the 25-year-old certainly wouldn’t have seen himself playing in when he made the move to southeast Queensland.
NEAFL coach Stephen Daniel explained to SUNS TV putting the 197cm key position player in the defensive 50 was Brooksby’s best bet to add to his three career games.

“Look, he’s been terrific,” Daniel said.
“If he’s to play at AFL level, that’s probably the spot he’s going to get in. So hence why at the moment, we had him down there.
“If he was to play in the ruck I suppose with us it would suit us if it was all about winning because he’s just a terrific ruckman. Not only the work he does in the centre square, it’s the way he gets all the boys together, organises them and has them all setup correctly so he plays a really important role.
“But we put him down back (on Saturday) and I didn’t think he did anything wrong down there either.”
