Although the Gold Coast SUNS weren’t able to claim the four premiership points in his AFL debut, Brayden Fiorini is far better off for the experience.

The SUNS were easily defeated by Collingwood in front of 17,644 fans at Etihad Stadium, with the vast majority decked out in black and white.

Despite the result, Fiorini revealed it was still a good experience running through the banner and representing the club that drafted him last year.

“Obviously wasn’t the result we wanted,” Fiorini told SUNS TV.

“It was a great experience running out there, just trying to soak it all in – the crowd, atmosphere and all of that.

“It was a good experience and I’ll learn from it going forward.”

Fiorini started the night slowly, registering just five disposals in the first half against the Magpies.

But after the main break, the Northern Knights product flourished, collecting eight touches in the third quarter to finish with 17 for the game.

“Quarter-by-quarter I kind of felt more comfortable and less overwhelmed I suppose,” Fiorini said.

“At the start I was a bit overwhelmed with the big crowd and trying to get used to it but second half got in the game a bit more and hopefully go on from that.”

The game provided plenty of lessons for the classy midfielder, with the speed of the contest catching Fiorini somewhat offguard.

“(You’ve) just got to react quicker, obviously you don’t get much time to think so just got to move from stoppage to stoppage a lot quicker and be more aggressive at the contest,” Fiorini said.

“Obviously being an inside mid there. Just got to work on that and learn from last week.”

The SUNS will play their last game for the 2016 season this Saturday night against Port Adelaide at Metricon Stadium and last year’s No. 20 draft pick is looking forward to pulling on the red and gold at senior level for a second time and thanking the home fans.

“Give back to all the fans, they’ve been great all year so hopefully get the win for them and finish off the year well,” Fiorini said.
