The Spring Carnival has finally come to a close, as has the holiday season for the Gold Coast SUNS first to fourth year players with a group commencing pre-season training at Metricon Stadium this morning.

Unlike previous years, the numbers present on Monday were much lower than in the clubs first five seasons with the age profile of Gold Coast’s list gradually maturing.

Less than 15 players reported for duty on a gloomy opening morning of the 2016 campaign, which was christened with a 2km time trial on Metricon Stadium.

Endurance beast Kade Kolodjashnij led the field home, in front of utility Alex Sexton and last season’s surprise packet Touk Miller.

After the aerobic assessment, the group of players went through ball work on the training ground before officially starting their summer slog in the gym.
