The Gold Coast SUNS as part of their commitment to the Community of the Gold Coast, will partner with well known Gold Coast Children’s charity Paradise Kids through a player mentor program,as part of the clubs commitment to supporting the awareness of Domestic Violence on the Gold Coast.
This Gold Coast after-school program co ordinated by Paradise Kids, allows boys aged 8-11 years to experience being with a diverse group of men who will teach them how to be masculine without using violence, and also demonstrate how to show respect for others.
The boys learn strategies and skills for dealing with conflict in a non-aggressive manner. This program is fun and active, and parents also receive support through participation in their own group at the same time.
Over 50 youngsters and their families were joined by Gold Coast SUNS player Zac Smith, (who has been announced as the Clubs Domestic Violence Ambassador for 2011) and Jared Brennan this week , to take part in a mentoring session at the Paradise Kids Headquarters.
This also included the Gold Coast SUNS promotions team, who provided those in attendance the chance to engage in the inflatable skills gallery and the inflatable field as part of the session.
Paradise Kids Manager of Counselling Patrick Lynch said “We are delighted to partner with the Gold Coast SUNS on this young boys mentor program. The benefit of having good positive male role modelling for our young boys is crucial”.
“The Gold Coast SUNS have committed to supporting Domestic Violence as one of their 3 social responsibility area’s and this is evidence that they are honouring that commitment”
Gold Coast Community Programs Manager Corey Bell said “Paradise Kids is a well know children’s charity of the Gold Coast that provides this wonderful program, to over 200 young boys each year.”
