Rory Thompson has been cited by the Match Review Panel following Gold Coast’s round 16 match against Collingwood at Metricon Stadium. Thompson can accept a reprimand with an early guilty plea.
The AFL released its findings on Monday afternoon.
Rory Thompson, Gold Coast Suns, has been charged with a Level Two Striking Offence (125 points, one-match sanction) for striking Travis Cloke, Collingwood, during the second quarter of the Round 16 match between the Gold Coast Suns and Collingwood, played at Metricon Stadium on Saturday July 5, 2014.
In summary, he can accept a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record with an early plea.
Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the Collingwood Football Club, the incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point). This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Two Offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction. He has no existing good or bad record. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 93.75 points towards his future record.
The Gold Coast SUNS will have until 11am Tuesday to challenge or accept the Match Review Panel’s decision.
