Gold Coast SUNS forward Charlie Dixon has lamented his team’s lack of consistency as it succumbed to the Western Bulldogs by 28 points at Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns on Saturday.
“Inconsistency is probably our biggest problem at the moment,” Dixon told SUNS TV.
“To win how we did last week and bring out a performance like we did then is pretty embarrassing.”
The numbers told the story of a dirty afternoon for the SUNS, with the Bulldogs outgunning Gold Coast in all of the key indicators on the day. They led 420-305 in total disposals, 46-39 in clearances, 58-38 in inside 50s and 167-141 in contested possessions.
“They outworked us,” Dixon said.
“I haven’t seen the numbers yet but we probably didn’t win the contested ball in the last half and it showed.”
After kicking a game-high three goals, the Cairns local will enjoy spending a few extra days in his hometown this week before heading back to training on the Gold Coast.
“It’s always good to have that spell and I’ll definitely be enjoying a bit of time off here in Cairns.”
The GC SUNS have the week off with a split round before the all-important QClash against the Brisbane Lions at The Gabba on July 26.
