Karmichael Hunt says he is hungrier than ever to reclaim his place in the senior team.

“That is my ambition and that is what I am aiming for,” Hunt told SUNS TV.

The round-one spilt fixture couldn’t have come at a better time for the high-profile code hopper.

Given his injury-interrupted pre-season, the added week on the training track will give Hunt an extra opportunity to boost his athletic performance, none of which has looked hampered judging from his recent performances with the Gold Coast SUNS NEAFL team.

Hunt is adamant the extra conditioning will give him a better chance to gain more kilometres in his body and build on his improved aerobic capacity.

“I’ve played the last couple of weeks but I still reckon I’m probably a week or so away,” he said.

“I’ve been able to find the footy but it’s just my run in my legs which I obviously needed to get up to standard.

“I feel good physically, but I missed much of the New Year with niggling injuries which set me back, but with the spilt round this week… be good to get some conditioning in.”

Although rapt to see his teammates celebrate their first victory for the season against Richmond last weekend, Hunts knows winning senior selection wont be easy.

But Hunt wouldn’t have it any other way, saying he is fuelled by the thirst of playing senior AFL football.

“Obviously the boys had a good win so I expect there wouldn’t be too many changes for the Freo match.

“But if I can get into the side down the track I’ll be more than happy.”
