Day re-commits to Gold Coast SUNS
The Gold Coast SUNS have re-signed key forward Sam Day, extending his contract until the end of 2016.
Day, who has played 42 games for the GC SUNS, was originally contracted until the end of the 2014 Season but opted to lock up his future on the glitter strip by re-committing to the club for a further two seasons.
Taken with the No. 3 pick in the GC SUNS inaugural draft, Day is not only a pillar of the forward line alongside Charlie Dixon and Tom Lynch, but has also shown his capability playing as a key defender.
In crediting Day’s manager, Justin Reid from ESP, GC SUNS General Manager of Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft was thrilled to announce Day’s multi-year contract extension.
“We are pleased to confirm Sam will remain with the Gold Coast SUNS for a further two years,” Marcus said.
“As we have always maintained, Sam is an extremely important player for us and is someone who has always carried himself as a true professional, both on and off the field.
“His re-signing shows he has faith in the direction of our football club and wants to be a part of its future success.”
Day told goldcoastfc.com.au he is pleased to be staying on the Gold Coast.
“I’ve been enjoying my footy on the Gold Coast and the lifestyle away from football as well,” he said.
“The boys are great up here and the club is heading in the right direction so I’m very excited.”
The hulking spearhead said there was real belief growing around the player change rooms after a confidence-building pre-season.
“It really shows everyone is on a similar page and it’s now just about making sure we lock up the entire playing group, because everyone wants to stay together and be part of the club’s future.”
