Notification of match day parking changes
With the first AFL matches of this season being played at Metricon Stadium this Saturday the 23rd of February, it is important those attending are aware of a number of new parking restrictions being enforced by Gold Coast City Council in nearby residential streets on match days.
These changes have come about following extensive community consultation with local residents to address a number of concerns raised in relation to traffic flow and pedestrian behaviour when the stadium hosts events.
Division 8 Councillor, Bob La Castra said parking in streets south of the stadium would be restricted to 15 minutes during ‘game days’, or other events when the stadium was in use.
“Everyone knows there is a shuttle bus service that drops patrons off at the main gate. So, the decision to restrict parking in nearby streets has come as a last resort,” said Cr La Castra.
“The restricted parking follows much consultation with residents living near the stadium who have been impacted with increased noise, litter and the inability to get in and out of their own homes during game days.”
“We have also liaised with the management at the stadium regarding the changes and to help get the message out to patrons about the restricted parking.”
Councillor La Castra said parking in Plateau Crescent, Summit Crescent, Ivy Street, Bluestone Drive, Wideview Court, Quartz Street and Amethyst Court will be restricted to 15 minutes on match days.
The area has been signed accordingly.
“The first pre-season game is on Saturday and I encourage footy fans to take advantage of the free shuttle service,” said Cr La Castra.
Parking in nearby streets, without the appropriate permit, will attract a $50 fine.
