The Gold Coast SUNS have re-signed 18-year-old Jack Martin for a further five years.

In an unprecedented contract extension, Martin, who was recruited by the GC SUNS with selection one in the 2012 GWS Giants incentive mini draft, will remain with the GC SUNS until at least the end of the 2017 season.

Viewers of SUNS TV, the clubs weekly free-to-air TV show on 7mate, and visitors to goldcoastfc.com.au were the first to learn of the signing today.

Martin's name shot to prominence after an outstanding Under 18 carnival in 2012. There was always going to be plenty of interest in Martin, and the GC SUNS had no hesitation in trumping all other clubs to get their hands on him.

Martin is 184cm, and oozes class.  The super talented West Australian will follow the same progression pathway  that team mate Jaeger O'Meara followed in 2012, spending a full season playing for the Club’s  NEAFL team before joining the senior list in 2014.

GC SUNS List Manager Scott Clayton said the club was rapt to secure Martin for an extended period.

“We are over the moon to extend Jack’s contract until the end of the 2017 season,”

“The contract extension for Jack is a significant vote of confidence from him and the Gold Coast Football Club and the direction we are heading and indeed an indication from us as to the importance of Jack for our football club in the future.”

Clayton believes Martin will form an important part of the future success of the GC SUNS.

“Jack joins an ever growing group of players recommitting to the Gold Coast Football Club and it is these players who will form the nucleus of our future success.”

Martin echoed Clayton’s thoughts.

“I’m really excited to sign with the Gold Coast for the next five years.”

“I have really enjoyed my first six months with the club and I had no hesitation in re-signing long term with the Gold Coast SUNS.”

Martin joins teammates Zac Smith, Trent McKenzie, Seb Tap, Rory Thompson, Jackson Allen, Clay Cameron and Charlie Dixon who have all re-committed in 2013.
