Andrew Boston’s emergence as a genuine small forward option gives SUNS fans plenty to ponder heading into next season.
Unfortunate to miss out on the AFL’s Rising Star nomination for Round 23, Boston had his best game for the SUNS last weekend against Greater Western Sydney since making first arriving on the AFL scene against Adelaide in Round 14.
He had an equal game-high four goals, 17 disposals, five marks (three from inside-50) and two goals in a career performance against the Giants.
An arrow-straight right boot, great hands and little regard for self-preservation – there is plenty of like about the 19-year-old sharpshooter.
Speaking exclusively with goldcoastfc.com.au, Boston said he was rapt to be given an opportunity to perform in his debut year.
“Yeah it was good, after the final siren went I think everyone was a bit buggered but it was awesome to get a win alongside the boys and we played really well for four quarters,” he said.
Not sure whether he’d be given a crack at First Grade after landing himself a spot on the rookie-list, the local product has gone on to play in eight of the SUNS 22 fixtures – and is hungry to build on his career tally after getting a taste of Premiership footy.
“It was tough to crack in at first when I first came to the Club. But now that I’ve played a few games it feels really good.”
Excited about the prospect of entering a full pre-season, Boston is looking to come back bigger and stronger in 2014.
“I definitely want to get the fitness up and strength up and yeah I’m looking forward to a good pre-season.”
