Joined by Loony Tunes favourites Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and CEO of Fun Sunny Ray, the jolly Red man himself Santa Claus unveiled his winter wonderland at Movie World this morning, giving those lucky enough to get inside the gates a sneak peak of what is to come on December 11 at the Warner Brothers precinct.
Just over 3,500 Gold Coasters from the Club’s ten nominated charity partners are expected to enjoy a night of Christmas joy including free rides, dinner, free ice cream, drinks and a mesmerising Christmas period featuring more than a million twinkling and multi-coloured lights – with the performance said to be the largest light show in Australia.
Best of all, the entire playing list will once again face their fears alongside the invited Gold Coasters, roaming from ride to ride.
Gold Coast Community Fund Chairman – Simon Bennett, says the event had established itself as a significant day on the city’s community calendar.
“The White Christmas Charity Event will once again invite 3,500 Gold Coast families and individuals, who wouldn’t normally get a Christmas, will get to enjoy a white Christmas with the GC SUNS players and all the attractions Movie World has to offer,” he said.
Projected to exceed last year’s fundraising tally of $60,000, Bennett is hopeful Santa’s busy helpers will grant his wish list of reaching an even greater target of $100,000.
“Obviously every dollar is going to be important, but we are hoping to build on last year’s generous $60,000 – hopefully we can aim for $100,000.”
GC SUNS Community Programs Manager – Corey Bell, said the Club’s biggest organised community event would return bigger and better this year.
“The GC SUNS are really committed to the work we do in the community,” Bell said.
“This is our fourth year as a Club in the event, and our players are excited to be in the event, where all 40 players will be here in the street parade giving back to the community.”
GC SUNS ruckman Daniel Gorringe, who was on hand for the official launch of the White Christmas Charity Event this morning, said it was an event the player’s looked forward to most.
“As players we are really fortunate to be where we are and to be able to interact with the families is a true privilege.”
