Mayor Tom Tate has announced that the city’s famous beaches will be cleaned up in time for the Gold Coast SUNS season opener against St. Kilda at Metricon Stadium on Easter Saturday.

Leading an inspection on the foreshore clean-up earlier this week, Cr. Tate confirmed that the beaches would be open and in perfect condition – encouraging all tourists and interstate visitors travelling to the tourist capital for the blockbuster showdown between the SUNS vs.  Saints to pack their beach gear for the busy holiday period.

“I want everyone to know that the Gold Coast is still the best place in Australia to come for an Easter break,” said Mayor Tate.

Cr. Tate said the city was sparing no expense in their assurance towards cleaning the beaches that had recently been affected by locally destructive wild weather.

“Every day the city is making progress on returning the beaches to their pristine best. We’re spending $20,000 daily to make them clean and safe to access.”

The Mayor was recently a keynote speaker at the Young Professionals Gold Coast Luncheon at Metricon Stadium, where he mingled with like-minded business leaders and guest of honour the Hon. Jeff Kennett.
