With a donation bucket in hand, the vibrant club mascot greeted Gold Coasters at drive thru’s and behind counters, raising much-needed funds for the Ronald McDonald House, who provide home-away-from-home support for the families of seriously ill children.
GC SUNS Community Program Manager – Corey Bell, said Sunny Ray had been blown away by the generosity shown by the Gold Coast community.
“We were delighted to take an active part in McHappy Day again this year,” Bell said.
“It is a wonderful cause, and we often see first hand how amazing McDonald’s are through our community partnership, and their assistance in the SHINE schools program.”
“We are very supportive of these charitable events and it was great to see Sunny Ray putting a smile on so many kids faces during McHappy Day this year.”
A dollar for every Big Mac went towards achieving the national target of $3.4 million.
Head of Ronald McDonald House Charities – Malcolm Coutts, said the funds raised from the national charity drive would be put towards helping the country’s neediest families.
“Last year alone, the funds raised from McHappy Day helped provide support to 5,650 families who stayed at a Ronald McDonald House as well as helping accommodate more than 80,000 people who visited a Family Room,” he said.
Significantly, social media users helped raise up tens of thousands of dollars by sharing a virtual “Helping Hand” on Facebook and by using the #mchappyday Hash Tag on Twitter or Instagram, courtesy of American Express.
