RUCKMAN Zac Smith has been presented with the 2013 Gold Coast SUNS Community Award, for his outstanding work in the area of Domestic Violence across the Gold Coast.
Presented to the player who demonstrated their dependability and commitment to the Club’s core community programs, Smith has thrived in his ambassadorial role with Domestic Violence and White Ribbon, working extremely closely with the Club’s four Domestic Violence charities through the Horizon’s Program.
Consistently at the forefront of the Club’s community program, Zac Smith led the charge towards the Gold Coast SUNS reaching the targeted 5000 community hours.
Through his partnership with Paradise Kids, Smith has actively taken on a mentoring role for the organisation’s young boys program – regularly visiting youth impacted by grief or domestic violence.
Building strong relationships, Smith has made a real difference in the Gold Coast community.
In a bid to give back to his North Queensland roots, Smith also volunteered a week of his time to travel to Bamaga with last year’s Community recipient Jarrod Habrrow to help deliver the Gold Coast SUNS No Boundaries program.
Most significantly though was Smith’s address to Parliament House, where he helped raise awareness Domestic Violence to Premier Campbell Newman and Government Ministers, educating those present about what they can do to support the growing social issue.
GC SUNS Community Program Manager – Corey Bell, praised Smith for going above and beyond in his community commitments in 2013.
“Zac has certainly done a significant amount of work right throughout the Community over the past 5 seasons since the Club inception”
“The difference he has made raising awareness, funds and supporting those impacted by Domestic Violence has been very impressive”.
