The Gold Coast SUNS will kick-start the 2013 season with an Easter Saturday Blockbuster against St Kilda at Metricon Stadium.
To be played on Easter Saturday, the March 30 encounter is also set to provide an early season boost to the Gold Coast economy with the GC SUNS set to work with St Kilda to ensure as many Saints fans as possible make the most of the extended Easter break on the Gold Coast.

GC SUNS CEO Travis Auld said the Gold Coast had received an early Easter gift with the prime time Saints clash.

We established as one of our fixture priorities the desire to deliver a home game to the Gold Coast over the Easter break. We will explore a number of initiatives to entice Saints fans to travel and make the most of all that the Gold Coast has to offer over the Easter break. It also represents a great opportunity for all AFL fans who are holidaying on the Coast to watch a game of football at Metricon Stadium, the number one stadium in the country for fan experience.

Two weeks later, Metricon Stadium will host the gripping fifth instalment of the QCLASH series with the Brisbane Lions making the trek down the M1 on Saturday, April 13.

QCLASH4 went down to the wire with the Lions escaping by the narrowest of narrow margins to take a three, one series lead.
There is no doubt the QCLASH rivalry is now well and truly alive and kicking. We are really pleased to get the first game here at Metricon in round 3 of next season year and we will be encouraging all of our supporters to paint the stadium red and hopefully deliver our first QClash win at home. July is another bumper month for sports fans on the Gold Coast with two of the games heavyweights playing on the Gold Coast in successive weeks.

On July 20, Collingwood return to the Gold Coast in a match expected to test Metricon Stadium’s capacity, while the following week, Carlton, under new coach Mick Malthouse will hit the coast in a match which is guaranteed to capture the attention of the AFL public following the Gold Coast SUNS thrilling upset victory over the Blues in round 22 this year.
We know from experience when we hosted Collingwood in 2011 that the Collingwood fans will take the opportunity to travel to the Gold Coast to support their team. This not only creates a great atmosphere at Metricon Stadium, it also generates a significant economic boost for our local economy and we look forward to delivering that benefit again in 2013. The SUNS have worked hard to secure the best possible fixture for 2013, balancing the demands of the football department, as well as feedback from the clubs members and constantly negotiating with the AFL and their broadcast team to ensure the GC SUNS are as accessible and reach as many fans as possible as the club enters its third season.

The full 2013 Gold Coast SUNS AFL fixture will be released at the end of October.
Overall it is shaping up as a very exciting fixture for the coming season. This follows the momentum the team generated in the second half of 2012 with a couple of fantastic wins at home and some really encouraging performances. There is plenty for our members and fans to look forward to in 2013.
