Whilst the rest of his team mates were enjoying a well-deserved day off leading into the clash against the Kangaroos, SUNS star Jarrod Harbrow was off kick-starting yet another Gold Coast SUNS Community program.

Visiting five schools in the northern growth region, Jarrod was fortunate to meet 40 Indigenous students from Upper Coomera State College, Pacific Pines Primary School, Pimpama State School, Helensvale State School and Coomera State School. For these students, it was the first step to their ongoing involvement in the No Boundaries Program – Gold Coast.

Targeting grade 6 & 7 students, the No Boundaries Program will engage these 40 individuals over a six month period focusing on the importance of education, healthy eating and the benefits that can be received through living an active lifestyle whilst participating in a team sport, such as AFL.
Students involved in the program will receive a Gold Coast SUNS supporter pack (including their own Guernsey), tickets to a Gold Coast SUNS match, the opportunity to participate in a half time grid game at Metricon Stadium, the chance to take a Gold Coast SUNS players through their classroom to talk about their day to day life, as well as an invitation to the White Christmas Charity Event in December.

A highlight of the day was seeing the way the students were able to open up and discuss their upbringing and family background with Jarrod (pictured above). Teachers watched on in amazement as even the quietest students, opened up to the entire group to state who they were and where they came from. A moment that the Gold Coast SUNS staff, the class teachers, students in attendance and certainly Jarrod, will never forget.
