The Gold Coast SUNS have selected local academy product Jesse Joyce with pick No. 67 in Friday morning’s rookie draft.
Having first begun in the academy at the age of 14, Joyce has spent the last five years developing under the eyes of Gold Coast recruiting staff.
He played nine games in the NEAFL, predominantly in the back half of the season, appearing more than comfortable at the level.
At 16, Joyce debuted for Palm Beach Currumbin in the QAFL, where he spent the last few seasons playing at different times.
Joyce’s exposed form at NEAFL and QAFL level encouraged Gold Coast recruiting boss, Dom Ambrogio, to pull the trigger and add another academy product to the club’s list via the rookie draft.
“Jesse Joyce is just a hard working local boy who has been really effective at NEAFL level,” Ambrogio told goldcoastfc.com.au on Friday morning.
“He has good footy IQ, he’s a good decision maker, he’s a good kick, prides himself on his skills and he will stick to the task.
“We think he can play in multiple roles, including as a small defender.”
