As the Gold Coast SUNS reflected on the 2012 season at Saturday nights Club Champion award, senior coach Guy McKenna announced the SUNS would farewell a contingent of valued players and staff.
Michael Coad, Hayden Jolly and Andrew McQualter, join Josh Fraser, all having played their final game with the GC SUNS.
McKenna explaining that both Coad and McQualter were informed that they would not be required for the 2013 campaign at season’s end, while Jolly advised the club of his desire to find a new home in 2013.
Michael has provided significant leadership and experience to our playing group over the last three years as has Andrew throughout the last 12 months with the club.“Similar to Josh Fraser, both players were well and truly aware of where they sat on our playing list and have continued to lead the way in a number of areas both on and off the field.”
McKenna confirmed that Jolly requested to find an alternate home during his post season interview with the coaching staff.
A graduate of the AIS/AFL Academy, Jolly was the GC SUNS first South Australian signing after joining the club as an underage selection in 2010.
Hayden has displayed significant improvement since joining the club during our VFL year. We appreciate his commitment to the club and wish him well in his future endeavours. The GC SUNS coach also announced that assistant coach, Shane O’Bree had opted not to renew his contract with the club.
Shane and his wife Gabby have decided to return to Melbourne. During their time on the Gold Coast the O’Bree’s welcomed little Billy and with Shane and Gabby now expecting their second child, the time is right for the family to return to Melbourne.“On a personal note, I would like to thank Shane for his support and I believe his coaching career will continue to thrive in Melbourne.”
McKenna also acknowledged the commitment of GC SUNS physio Nathan Carloss who has also opted not to renew his contract with the Club.
Carloss joined the GC SUNS at the end of 2010 and has provided first class treatment to the playing group throughout his time with the club.
In paying tribute to Fraser, Coad, McQualter, Jolly, O’Bree and Carloss, McKenna thanked them for their involvement with the GC SUNS.
The Gold Coast SUNS are grateful for their contributions and we know that the club is by far better off for having them all part of our club and we trust that they all leave the SUNS as better people.
