AFL Women’s Week was launched in Adelaide on Monday.

AFL Women’s Week provides an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the role females play at all levels of Australian football, from participation to administration, volunteering and supporting. Women and girls are essential to the fabric of our game, and have been for over 150 years.

The Gold Coast SUNS encourage its female fans to attend Saturday nights match against North Melbourne at Metricon Stadium and help celebrate the AFL’s Women’s Week.

There will be plenty of activities prior to the match and a lucky lady attending the match will walk away with a $500 Pacific Fair gift voucher.

SUNS TV, simulcast on GOLD FM, will broadcast live from the Southern Plaza with prominent female Gold Coasters as special guests.

Local junior female players will take to Metricon Stadium at half-time as part of the AFL’s Auskick program.

Other activities to take place across the round include AFL and club functions, an all-female super clinic prior to the match between Melbourne and Collingwood, female participation in all half-time NAB AFL Auskick and a Live at the ‘G performance by Stonefield before the Geelong and Hawthorn match.

The Women’s National Championships will commence in Adelaide on Tuesday June 7 and will conclude on Saturday June 11, with the finals played at Gliderol Stadium, Glenelg.

Gold Coast SUNS General Manager Marketing and Community Kelly Ryan said women are essential to the fabric of our game, and have been for over 150 years.

“Women play such an important role in our game, from taking their children to Auskick, participating or volunteering in a number of areas, filling executive roles at the elite level, to supporting their team each week.

“Women love our game, and Women's Week allows us to shine a spotlight on this relationship and hear what makes footy so special to our female fans.
