IT was a case of so close yet so far for the Gold Coast Football Club after coming away with a dramatic draw against Werribee at Chirnside Park on Saturday night.

The Coast led at every change but the young legs tired as the match went on with the home side storming home for a 12-12 (84) to 11-18 (84) draw in front of a crowd of about 5000.

It looked like the Coast were set for their first VFL win when they led by 34 points late in the third term.
But two quick goals before the last change gave Werribee the sniff they needed.

The last term was a tense affair but it appeared the GCFC were home when Trent McKenzie kicked truly to push the lead out to two goals.

But the Tigers would just not go away – putting two goals on the board late in game to draw level with the Gold Coast.

There would be no further score with both teams walking off the field with that numb feeling that only a draw can provide.

Defender Michael Coad was again sensational for the Coast while Danny Stanley, Alik Magin, Taylor Hine, skipper Marc Lock and forward Charlie Dixon were also named in the best.
Dixon with two goals and forward Rex Liddy, who also kicked two goals, were the Coast’s multiple goalkickers.
