With the SUNS needing to reduce their list from 46 to 42 at season's end, they need to cull a minimum of seven players – allowing for three more draft picks.
This didn't look too difficult a task six weeks ago, but with a crippling injury toll topping 20, a number of bottom-tier players have been given a chance in the seniors and grabbed it with both hands.
Jacob Gillbee was the latest of these in last week's upset win over Carlton. His attack on the ball was impressive and showed he could contribute at AFL level.
Playing the Crows will be the final chance – and final game – for a number of players.
Assistant coach Shane O'Bree said list management had become a trickier proposition over recent weeks with the Suns winning three of their past six.
"It'll be a very difficult decision for list management at the moment," O'Bree said.
I reckon our bottom 15-20 players have been going pretty well. There'll be some unlucky guys that get delisted at the end of the year.
Last year the SUNS delisted players the week after their season finished, but are expected to take longer to deliberate over it this time.
"I think we've got a lot of players who have shown over the year that when they get their opportunity they take it," O'Bree said.
Last week we had Gillbee and over the last six weeks Taylor Hine has stepped up and played awesome. It's been a credit to the guys that have been in and out of the side to come in and play their role for the team.
"They haven't surprised me at all. Every club has players that just need an opportunity to play senior football.
"Those guys have been knocking down the door for a while, they get their opportunity and they're playing good football."
Questions hang over the future of defender Josh Toy, who was omitted for the Crows match in favour of Jeremy Taylor.
O'Bree said it was imperative Gold Coast finished strongly against Adelaide.
Being a past player it means a lot in the last round of the season. If you can go away with a win in the last round, going into pre-season you've got that spur in the back of your head to have the best pre-season and give yourself the best opportunity to play good footy next season.
The Gold Coast SUNS take to the field at 2:10pm (Qld time) tomorrow afternoon with the season finale of SUNS TV on air from 1:30pm tomorrow.
