Gold Coast SUNS captain Gary Ablett is favourite to add the 2012 Brownlow Medal to his SUNS Club Champion and AFL Players Association Most Valuable Player awards.

Ablett, listed at $4.00 with betting agencies is fancied to win his second Brownlow, ahead of Cotchin ($4.50) and Watson ($5.00).

In the only awards voted by players, Ablett polled 788 votes to win his fourth MVP award from Essendon skipper Jobe Watson on 602 and Richmond's Trent Cotchin on 495.

Ablett, 28-years-old, averaged an equal career-high 33.8 disposals a game this season, however there is a reason he along with Cotchin and Watson aren't raging hot favourites.

Winners of the Brownlow Medal tend to come for a successful team and that's why thus years count is tipped to be wide open.

Not since Shane Crawford in 1999 has the winner not played finals football and in what could make a Ablett victory even more remarkable, the Gold Coast skipper captained his side to just three wins this year, a tally that does not bode well as it is 63 years since a medallist has come from a side with fewer wins

Adelaide pair Scott Thompson and Patrick Dangerfield remain well in the market after outstanding seasons, while another Hawthorn's Sam Mitchell, and Swan Josh Kennedy are viewed as legitimate chances to claim both the Brownlow Medal and premiership in the same season.
