Sam Flanders has been named to make his AFL debut tomorrow night as the SUNS get set to take on Essendon in Round 11 of the Toyota AFL Premiership Season.
In exciting news for the club, Flanders becomes the sixth Gold Coast SUNS player to make his debut in 2020.
“It’s unreal, a little bit of a relief to finally get the first one, I’m just hoping we can get the win for the team, I’d be super stoked for that,” Flanders said.
“I’ve had a few setbacks and to finally start to get a bit of reward for all the hard work now, is a massive achievement and something I’m proud of.
Flanders found out about his impending debut as the team finalised preparations ahead of the Round 11 fixture.
“The first time I heard about it, we were just in a meeting and I had no idea at all.”
“I saw there was a vacant spot out of the goal square and then my name popped up, then all the boys got around me which was an amazing feeling.”
When asked what he was looking forward to most.
“I can’t wait to get out there with the boys, I’ve been training with them for a while, so to finally get out there will be special.”
Flanders was taken with pick 11 in the 2019 NAB AFL Draft and has been a standout in recent scratch matches.
Flanders will make his AFL debut on Wednesday night against Essendon at Metricon Stadium, the match will be broadcast on 7mate in Queensland, Fox Footy and live streamed on Kayo and Telstra AFL Live Pass.
