Injected into the midfield full-time in 2020, Lachie Weller continued his career trajectory with another standout season.
Weller’s inclusion transformed the SUNS midfield with his burst of speed and class giving the club more polish through the engine room.
The 24-year-old was also dangerous offensively, using his penetrative boot to kick a number of long goals from outside 50.
Originally coming to the club as a half-back and winger, Weller’s use as an inside midfielder is a tick for his versatility as a player and highlights the level of trust he holds from his coaches.
Weller played 15 games in 2020, averaging 17 disposals, three clearances and 312 metres gained per match.
His 7th-placed finish in Gold Coast’s Club Champion has him well-placed to continue his improvement again in 2021.
