Rory Atkins has officially joined the Gold Coast SUNS as a Free Agent.
Atkins, 26, played 101 games for the Adelaide Crows over the past eight years before making the decision to join the club.
The opportunity to be part of the club’s journey was a key factor in Atkins making his decision to relocate to the Gold Coast.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the SUNS and look forward to helping the playing group drive forward,” Atkins said.
“After speaking with Stuart Dew and the players, it’s clear it’s an exciting time to be onboard.
“I’m confident I can bring aspects of my game both on and off the field to help the club achieve success.”
The midfielder said he was looking forward to reuniting with a couple of familiar faces at the SUNS.
“I know Hugh (Greenwood) really well and I was rapt to see how successful his first year at the club was and I’ve previously worked with both Josh (Francou) and Tate (Kaesler) who have spoken so highly about the football program.”
General Manager Football Jon Haines said Rory was a player the club had targeted and someone that complimented our playing group.
“We’ve set out over the past two seasons with a targeted approach around the type of players we want to bring into the football club. Rory has proven ability at AFL level, assets that complement our playing group and is committed to helping us continue our journey,” Haines said.
Rory had recent shoulder surgery but will join the first group of players who return to training on December 7.
