Gold Coast SUNS vice captain Nathan Bock underwent surgery on Sunday to repair damage to his injured leg.

Bock suffered a fractured right tibia during the opening term of the Gold Coast SUNS game against Fremantle at Metricon Stadium on Saturday.

GC SUNS General Manager Football Operations Marcus Ashcroft said the key defenders surgery was successful.

"Nathan underwent surgery on Sunday afternoon and the early indications is that the operation was successful," Ashcroft said.

"Although we are extremely pleased with the surgery, we will have to wait and see how Nathan recuperates until we will be in a better position to understand how long he will be out of the game."

Bock will be released from hospital early this week.
