In unfortunate news, reigning AFLW Club Champion Jamie Stanton has been ruled out for the remaining three weeks of the season after suffering an ankle injury in the match against Adelaide on the weekend.
Stanton had her left ankle trapped underneath both her and her opponents bodies as she attempted a tackle in the opening quarter.
AFLW Head Physiotherapist Aaron Duffy said the scan results had shown a fracture to her ankle.
“Jamie had scans on her ankle when we returned to the Gold Coast and that’s come back and confirmed our suspicions of a fibula fracture and she’s also damaged the syndesmosis in that ankle,” Duffy said.
“She’ll consult a specialist this week and have surgery and will be unavailable for the rest of the season.”
In positive injury news, Maddison Levi is available for selection again after missing the Round 6 match with swelling in her knee.
“Maddi is tracking really well, that swelling and soreness has completely resolved.
“She trained with the main group on Monday and got through really well and she’ll be available for selection for this weekend.
Defender Emma Pittman took another step in her comeback from an ACL injury, playing her first match since the injury for Coorparoo in the QAFLW on the weekend.
“Emma did really well, she got through the game and had no reaction in her knee,” Duffy said.
“She’ll continue to train with the main group and then she’ll get some more minutes in the QAFLW this weekend as she progresses toward selection for the AFLW squad.”
