It is Gold Coast’s young midfield weaponry, rather than two-time Brownlow medallist Gary Ablett, that is consuming John Longmire’s planning ahead of Sunday’s clash against the SUNS.

The top-four placed Swans head to Queensland in search of their eighth win for the season, and deservedly go in to the match as the AFL’s new flag favourites following their frightening 110-point obliteration of Geelong at the SCG.

By his own lofty standards, Ablett had a quiet performance against Adelaide on Sunday, with Crows tagger Sam Kerridge keeping the two-time premiership- winning midfielder to 25 disposals.

As he often does, Ablett eventually broke loose in the second-half, and despite making a sizeable impact after the long break, Kerridge’s close checking was still hailed a success.

Swans Kieren Jack, Ben McGlynn, Craig Bird or Jarrad McVeigh are all a chance of curbing the Gold Coast captain’s influence, but Longmire said Ablett was not the only SUN causing him headaches.

"I'm sure he takes up a lot of the planning time for most coaches," he said.

"He certainly is a rare talent in AFL football and his ability to win one-on-ones is as good as what there has probably been.

"When he decides to win it, he wins it.

"We've had a bit of trouble with him in the past and need to make sure we look after him this week.

"But (Dion) Prestia is having a fantastic season and we saw (David) Swallow on the weekend play really good football and (Jaeger) O'Meara – their midfielders are going to be really dominant players for a long time.

"If you put all your attention into Ablett, those others are as good now as any going around."

Gold Coast’s round twelve opposition is set to be at full strength, with Dane Rampe the only real injury concern with knee soreness from the Cats match.

First-choice ruckman Mike Pyke (hamstring) will be assessed after training on Wednesday with the Canadian a chance to return after four weeks on the sidelines.
