During his time at the Gold Coast SUNS, hard-nosed utility Danny Stanley has played in just about every position imaginable.
In 2013, he played primarily as a run-with midfielder, averaging 20.9 disposals over 18 games. This season, the man known as ‘Bull’ played a variety of roles from a defensive forward minding the opposition’s most dangerous small forward to a deep-lying defender/back pocket player.
“Being able to play multiple positions probably helped me to stay in the side. If I was a one-dimensional player, I might find myself out of the side,” Stanley told NBN News.
“So being flexible, I suppose, has helped me.”
With a new senior coach in Rodney Eade and a new game plan, the 26-year-old is hoping to lock down his position on the field in 2015.
“Playing at that high half-forward and rotating through the midfield is somewhere I’d like to play,” he said.
“Ten-minute chat with Rocket (Eade) yesterday was good. It was mainly just a catch-up.
“From what I’ve seen, his game plan and everything sounds really good and exciting. He’s easy to talk to, so looking forward to it.”
